Activities in the area

Finca La Libertad is located in the hills near the village of Coín. From your casita at Finca La Libertad you can enjoy excellent walking- and cyclingtrails. Of course, you can also enjoy the swimming pool and the beautiful views. Coín is a cosy village with many squares where you can eat and drink. In addition, the municipality of Coín is very enterprising when it comes to activities. At weekends, there is plenty of activities, like music, art and theatre.

Coín is centrally located in the heart of Andalusia with the highlights within relatively short driving distance. At this page you can see the highlights we definitely recommend:

- Caminito del Rey

Caminito del Rey, is a spectacular hiking trail where you walk along a path against the cliff. In 1901, the need arose for a path to transport stuff between Chorrow Falls and Gaitanejo Falls for the construction and maintenance of the hydraulic power plants on both sides of the falls. After four years of hard work, the path was opened in 1905 after which it became known by its current name " el caminito del rey": the king's path. The rest of its history is told by the guides of the Caminito del rey themselves. They also take you into a piece of nature they tell you a bit about.

The King's Path is around the river "el Chorro" Part of this walk you walk on a narrow path above a gorge. The cliffs are about 400 metres high. The views are stunning and you won't want to stop taking photos. However, don't forget to look around!

Although it was years in the making, much-needed renovation began in 2013. By spring 2015, the trail was ready and safe enough to open to the general public. Wherever possible, old parts of the concrete path were refurbished. In many places, the choice was made to build a new wooden path above the old one. The path has been transformed from the most dangerous route to a safe walk, but it is still spectacular.

- Barranco Blanco

Barranco Blanco is a beautiful piece of nature located between Alhaurín el Grande and Coín. In this hiking area you will find a waterfall, originating from the Alaminos River , also known as the Río de las Pasadas, which runs through lush vegetation, until it flows into the sea at Fuengirola.

Let yourself slide down the rope, climb on the rocks, swim through the cave and walk through the mangrove! The barranco blanco is a great to do with your family with children 5 years old onwards. Slightly younger is also possible, but then mum and dad will need some courage and help the kids with climbing the rocks.

There is no entrance fee at the Barranco blanco. Note: Between June and September, you cannot get to the start of the route by car. A 20- to 30-minute walk from the parking area to get to the start of the route is then necessary.

The Barranco Blanco is a 20-minute drive from Finca la Libertad.

- Sierra de las Nieves

A large hiking area with many different walking routes and several "miradors" (viewpoints).

View information on hiking routes here

One of our favourites in the Sierra de las Nieves is a hike through the mountain area near the village of Tolox. Nice and close to our finca and walking routes with beautiful waterfalls and different distances. Something for everyone and especially recommended with children. Don't forget your swimwear! You park at the old bathhouse where the different routes are signposted. Charco de la Virgin is the designated route with children. 2.4 km and a nice swim at the waterfall at the end.

The hiking area at Tolox is a 30-minute drive from Finca la Libertad.

- El Torcal

Near the pretty town of Antequera you will find the El Torcal nature reserve. Walk through an unreal, prehistoric landscape and marvel at the incised rock formations. You can let your imagination work freely as to what figures can be seen in the rock formations. There is a visitor centre and museum where you can park.

El Torcal has 3 routes from 1.5 to 4.5 km long.

El Torcal is a 1-hour and 15-minute drive from our Finca, but don't let this length of time put you off. The route to El Torcal is beautiful, you'll be there before you know it and it's really worth it.
